How many calories do you need, based on your activity level? (Calculate TDEE)
Know "What is going in" May use Apps such as MyFitnessPal, Lose it (We have NO financial or other interest with ANY specific app or other organization--these are just two that we happen to be familiar with)
Eliminate Sugary Drinks (Processed Juices, Regular Soda)
Try to make Diet an "Indian Adaptation of Mediterranean Diet)--Switch from Rice to Quinoa or Brown Rice
Lower fried foods
Switch to higher protein items such as Tofu (vegetarians) or lean chicken

Eating something ahead of time (Renu eats a bit of salad and I sometimes eat my favorite yellow dal!)
Drink water BEFORE you start
Pick low cal options (many restaurants now have calories listed)
If you go for everything, lower portion size (pack half of it ahead of time to take home)
