अकेले चले थे सफ़र पे, कारवां बनता गया
Based in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania USA, we are two experienced physicians, medical school sweethearts, with over 70 years of medical practice between us. We undertook the journey of the BROWN HEART almost 2 years ago after seeing numerous friends and acquaintances within our South Asian community getting early and severe heart disease and several getting bypass surgery, and some tragically passing away--way too early. After extensive, evidence-based scientific research, we travelled all over the US, India and the UK to interview health experts and gather human stories of survival and loss related to the menace of heart disease in South Asians (those from India, Pakistan, Bangladhesh, Srilanka and Nepal) and we weaved over 100 hours of such rich interviews into a 2 hour documentary film (a longer version with four 45-minute episodes in the form of a web-series awaits as well!)
Based in Delhi, Yogendra is the biggest and most important decision we made. We started by having him as a Cinematographer for the Brown Heart in India, but his sincerity, film-making skills, and innate creative talent led him to becoming the Associate Director and the single person who put in the countless hours and often "burned the midnight oil" to make the Brown Heart happen. The Brown Heart is here because of him. His answer to everything (almost!) I asked him to do: "Yes, we can!" Through countless crises and inevitable challenges during the making of the Brown Heart, he remains a loyal friend who I can count on
HERSHA & HASU P. SHAH
MADHAVI & RAMESH BATHINI
OUR EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS
THE BROWN HEART was funded by generous donations from private donors in Central Pennsylvania who believed in the heart-felt and noble project goals of saving lives and improving health. The majority of the funding was provided by two couples, based in Central Pennsylvania, who are known for giving and philanthropy: Hersha and Hasu P. Shah, and Madhavi and Ramesh Bathini. Hasu Bhai and Hersha ben have been personal friends for several decades. Their legendary journey owning hotels across America, and unparalleled giving and philanthropy is well chronicled here. But their warmth and personal friendship is of highest value to us. Ramesh is a gifted investment professional who is sharp and talented, but both Madhavi and him are best known to us for their humility, love, friendship and gentleness.
Thanks to these two special friends in the community, within seven days of the Brown Heart concept, we had secured close to 85% of the funds required. Through these funds, we found the necessary wind under our sails to embark on this long but highly rewarding journey
The project ROI (Return on Investment): SAVED LIVES!
